Spirituality is one of the terms that is often defined differently because each individual has a different perspective on it. I believe that my perception of spirituality is quite essential when caring for patients. Patients, in most cases, are worried that their conditions might get worse. When this worry sets in, the patients often need healthcare professionals who can at least give them hope. Through my perception of spirituality, I give patients hope that helps them in achieving inner peace. I also offer the patients emotional support to ensure that the thoughts of their conditions do not weigh them down. I believe that it is essential for healthcare professionals to use their perception of spirituality to give patients the spiritual support that they need (Wattis & Curran, 2016). All the patients have their own definition of spirituality, and the best that a nurse can do is to offer support.
