The Menopause Transition Discussion Paper
Case Study 2
The case study revolves around a 46-year-old woman with a history of breast cancer. She is up-to-date on her mammogram. However, she has a history of hypertension and complains of hot flushing, sweating at night, and genitourinary symptoms. She has not felt well until a month ago and presented herself to a gynecologist. Her pap smears have been normal, but five years ago, it was discovered she had ASCUS. From this evaluation, one can say that the patient could be undergoing menopause due to the symptoms of night sweats and hot flushing. Accordingly, menopause is often prevalent between women ages 40 and 60 years old (Dehghan et al., 2022). Considering that the patient is 46-year-old, she is within the age bracket for the onset of menopause and the symptoms could be showing the beginning of menopause. During menopause, a person undergoes breast changes, and other changes to the urogenital tract, uterus, and skeletal system. According to Ilankoon et al. (2020), the symptoms that the client experiences are termed as vasomotor flushes. The changes in the breast occur and involve death of cells and remodeling of the breast tissues and also alters the pH balance in the urogenital tract. The symptoms occur due to a decline in estrogen levels. The Menopause Transition Discussion Paper
The treatment recommendation may include a hormone replacement therapy and progestin. In the case study, one can see that the patient presents with hot flushes, night sweats, and is free of breast cancer. She had a menses in the last month, meaning that she does not have hysterectomy. An evaluation is needed to evaluate the cardiovascular system. However, she has a high blood pressure. Hormone therapy would help the patient manage these symptoms. Patient education is needed to teach the patient on menopause as she is in the phase where she is about to experience full blown symptoms of menopause (Santoro et al., 2020). Teaching the patient about menopause will help her to be more aware of her body and be prepared to maneuver this phase. The Menopause Transition Discussion Paper
