As argued in this study, most of the instruments for patient satisfaction are not based on patient perceptions, which limits their validity theoretically. This study aims to identify good nursing care as patients perceive it using a sample of 199 hospitalized adult patients in a public hospital in South Central United States. Five themes emanated from this qualitative study: provision of needs, pleasant treatment, care, competence, and prompt care. Quality of nursing care is determined by how well nurses provide for the patient’s needs, treat them well, care about patients, display their competence, and provide prompt and urgent care based on the patient’s perspectives. In this study, quality nursing is a multidimensional concept that has attracted the interest of nurse professionals and health organizations worldwide. It is viewed as an integral component of healthcare. The study evaluated nurse and patient perceptions of quality nursing care in Mongolia’s public secondary and tertiary care health centers. 21 registered nurses and 18 patients were interviewed in focus group discussions, and content analysis was done for data evaluation. The findings showed that quality of nursing care involved effective management of symptoms, encouragement, provision of emotional support, nurturing relationships, respecting religious beliefs, and concern for cultural diversity. The findings could aid in assessing the quality of nursing services offered to patients.

The study sought to determine the relationship between quality and value relative to worth, quality, and beneficence from the patients’ viewpoint. The study revealed a close association between patient-perceived quality and value and patient-perceived quality and beneficence. From these findings, value and goodwill are linked to quality. Value is relative worth that has a quality link. Nurses deemed a healthcare service valuable if it met their goals. Thus, this has considerable implications for nursing practice as nurses need to work to ensure they meet patient expectations for the value of the healthcare service and for quality to be acquired.

Evolution of the APN role, services, and utilization in the practice arena:
– In the initial stages of anesthesia practice, nurses were utilized as the administrators while the practice of surgery was left to the physicians. Over time, physicians wanted a stake in anesthesia practice and so was born the dichotomy of the physician anesthesiologist and nurse anesthetist. Over time, the education requirements have increased, allowing the CRNA to become registered and a doctorally-prepared provider. Currently, the practice of anesthesiology is a recognized nursing and medical specialty unified by the same standards of care. CRNA’s are independent practitioners that plan and deliver anesthesia and pain management to patients of all health complexities across the lifespan. Models of advanced practice (where relevant) and relevance to their role development and practice.
– There are a couple of different advanced practice models in anesthesiology. There is the Anesthesia Care Team (ACT) Model and Independent Practice Model. Essentially, the ACT model has one supervising physician anesthesiologist that can oversee four OR’s being run by CRNA’s. The anesthesiologist typically does all of the pre-ops, regional anesthesia, and post-ops, while the CRNA’s do all of the anesthesia in the operating rooms. In the Independent Practice Model, the CRNA’s are autonomous providers. Theory Application and Advanced Role Development in Nursing Essay
Collaborative relationships with other practitioners especially physicians.
– We collaborate with the patient and other healthcare professionals in order to provide patient-centered high-quality, holistic, evidence-based and cost-effective care.
Reimbursement and Billing for APN Services
– Typically done through RVU’s in the civilian sector; however, I’m not well versed in this as I’ve only been a CRNA in the Navy.
Any legislative issues, legal and ethical trends relevant to their practice
– The largest legislative issue facing CRNA’s right now are the roadblocks to continued legislation success enabling CRNA’s to be autonomous in their anesthesiology practice. Currently, there are over 30 states that have passed legislature enabling CRNA’s to be independent practitioners. This means, we are over the halfway mark, but still have work to do in a large percentage of the country. In addition, there are a new group of anesthesia providers called Anesthesia Assistants (AA’s). These providers are meant solely to work under physician anesthesiologists and have no autonomy or prescriptive authority. I’m not quite sure how this will impact our profession in the future, but there has certainly been a lot of discussion amongst our community about them recently.
