The New Scenario in Kristof and Sheryl (2010)
The new scenario Kristof and Sheryl (2010) presents concerns about female genital mutilation links to childbirth mortality. That is because, initially, the issue of FGM has been outlined by most authors as an oppression of females who hails from cultures that abide by their awkward cultures that believes that the only way to tame a woman is through FGM. However, these cultures do not consider that when they subject their girls and women to FGM, they endanger their lives, particularly during childbirth, since most experience childbirth difficulties. Another issue linked to FGM is that it acts as one of the main ways to transmit HIV/AIDS to most women since the equipment is not sterilized as it should since most of the equipment is used during socio-cultural rites. As a result, those women that undergo FGM develop psychological problems, which in some cases may lead to adverse effects like suicide.
Solutions
The best solution to the FGM issue will be education as part of the solutions that Kristof and Sheryl (2010) offer. Education will enlighten these women about their rights, making them more aware of the dos and don’ts in their lives. Through education, these women will also learn of the nearby rescue centers where they can hide, especially when those close to them cannot respect their decisions. The new scenario learned from Kristof and Sheryl (2010) is the FGM and its associated issues. However, endangered women need to be educated to empower them and help them make the right decisions.
